Steve Peat (SANTA CRUZ SYNDICATE/SRAM/ROCKSHOX), remains the overall points leader in the UCI World Cup Downhill series as he places 5th in the downhill today. Marc Beaumont (MBUK/Santa Cruz), rocks his Santa Cruz V-10 into a 4th place finish on the long, punishing course at Mt. Ste. Anne, Quebec, Canada. Chris Kovarik is the race winner just edging out Greg Minnaar. Nathan Rennie places 8th, after having a 2nd place run in the qualifier. Sam Hill places 3rd. Minnaar is 40 points behind Peaty, ready to “rumble in the jungle” at the next world cup downhill next week in Brazil as the points race heats up. Peat had the fastest split time, 2:26.26, but made some mistakes in the bottom half of the course. Peaty has this to say of his run, “I had a crash in the qualifier which didn’t give me many points which sucks. But I was up for the finals. I knew I was riding fast on the track but I had three big mistakes. I knew I had to push hard. The track had dried up and changed quickly so my braking points all changed making it tougher. I’d like to thank the Santa Cruz Syndicate for making it easier for me, and thanks to all my sponsors. Bring on Brazil!!” DOWNHILL FINAL RESULTS: 1) CHRIS KOVARIK - 4:44.20 2.26.42 2) GREG MINNAAR - 4:44.52 2:28.61 3) SAM HILL - 4:45.44 2:26.57 4) MARC BEAUMONT - 4:45.84 2:26.73 5) STEVE PEAT - 4:46.86 2:26.26 UCI WC OVERALL DOWNHILL STANDINGS: PEAT 698 MINNAAR 658 HILL 579 RENNIE 546 ATHERTON,GEE 508 www.santacruzbicycles.com
